Creating Love Stories In Paradise
Resilience, French elegance, and the "Wild North." Explore how Jennifer and Éric embraced the unpredictable beauty of Seixal Beach, including a traditional Poncha ritual and a first dance that stole the show.
Once in a while, right in the middle of an ordinary life, love gives us a fairytale
Madeira is often called the “Island of Eternal Spring,” but for those who truly want to feel the pulse of the Atlantic, there is nowhere quite like the North Coast. It is rugged, emerald-green, and beautifully unpredictable.
This past October, we had the honor of coordinating a celebration that perfectly matched that landscape: the wedding of Jennifer and Éric. It was a day defined by French elegance, a lively tribe of 14 children, and a reminder that Mother Nature always has the final say, but she can’t touch the spirit of a family in love.
The couple chose to base their “wild” wedding in the North, staying at the traditional manor house Casa do Lanço in São Vicente. For their ceremony, they chose the iconic black sand beach of Seixal.
Unlike the manicured resorts of the South, Seixal offers raw, volcanic drama. With 33 guests—including nearly as many children (14) as adults—the vibe was multi-generational, loud, and full of life.
As wedding planners, we track the tides with military precision. However, the North Coast is famous for its “rogue” energy. About an hour before Jennifer and Éric were set to arrive, while the beach was perfectly set with our custom wooden arch and minimalist decor, a single massive wave swept across the sand.
In an instant, the decor was gone.
While a moment like this could derail any wedding, the Madeira Weddings team moved into “pivot mode.” We focused on what mattered: the feeling. When the couple arrived, the beach was clean, the atmosphere was electric, and the lack of “stuff” only highlighted the stunning natural beauty of the volcanic cliffs. It was a perfect “Beauty in the Storm” moment.
The ceremony was a sensory masterpiece. As Rolando blended the sounds of the violin and saxophone with the crashing Atlantic waves, Jennifer walked across the black sand.
Despite being petite (1m54), Jennifer commanded the beach. Her “French Beauty” look, styled by Mary Cafora, was luminous and natural, perfectly proportioned with a custom-designed bouquet that didn’t overwhelm her frame.
To ground their union in Madeiran culture, we performed a Poncha Ritual. Jennifer had prepared a custom ring box filled with black sand from that very beach. After the vows, the couple toasted their marriage with chilled, fresh Poncha served in shot glasses right there on the sand. It was authentic, local, and unforgettable.
One of the most moving parts of the day was the speeches. At Madeira Weddings, we coordinate for couples from all over the world, and while I don’t speak French, you didn’t need a translator to understand the emotion on that beach.
The speeches lasted significantly longer than a standard wedding, with almost every guest wanting to share a memory. Watching the tears and laughter ripple through the group, it was clear that Jennifer and Éric aren’t just a couple; they are the heart of a very tight-knit community.
The celebration moved to Restaurant on the beach, where Chef Ernesto insisted on a “Market Fresh” philosophy. The menu was a tribute to the North: Paella, grilled local fish, and a signature passion fruit cheesecake.
The highlight of the evening, however, was the first dance. On social media, Jennifer later shared that Éric was incredibly nervous about the dance, it wasn’t a “dream” for him initially. But after weeks of secret rehearsals, he didn’t just manage it; he excelled. Their choreographed routine in the intimate space of the restaurant was a triumph of effort and love.
The wedding was so striking that the next day, locals in the village of Seixal were still talking about the “beautiful French couple” on the beach. Guests left with small jars of local Doce de Banana (banana jam) and mini bottles of Poncha, a literal piece of the island to take home to France.
Jennifer and Éric’s wedding proved that you don’t need a “perfect” weather report or a massive guest list to have a high-impact wedding. You just need the courage to embrace the wild and a team that knows how to navigate the waves.
